Blast and Projectile Resistant Test Enclosures

In-Ground Concrete and Above-Ground Steel Test Enclosures

Houma, LA

Roger McChargue Construction provided design and construction services to Benoit Premium Threading for a 50 ft long above-ground steel hydrostatic pressure test enclosure, a 110 ft long dual compartment above-ground steel hydrostatic pressure test enclosure, and an 80 ft long in-ground concrete high-pressure test enclosure.

These test enclosures were designed utilizing the most recent blast and projectile perforation data from test enclosure engineering consultants. The end walls of the above-ground enclosures were designed to prevent the perforation of a 292 lb projectile at a velocity of 290 ft/sec. The in-ground enclosure incorporated 1” thick hydraulically operated steel lids designed to prevent the perforation of a 2.6 lb projectile at a velocity of 510 ft/sec.

Each test enclosure has its own custom designed control station which operates the hydraulic system and a network of cameras with a viewing station. The test enclosures are designed in a manner that will not allow a test to begin until the enclosure is closed and fully locked.
